What is demodicosis?

The human Demodex mite (Demodex folliculorum) is a parasite of mites. It resides in the sebaceous glands of human skin and hair follicles, causing a dermatological disease called demodectosis, which manifests itself as purpuric pustules. The parasite feeds on sebum and filtered blood plasma, as well as the secretion of sebaceous glands and epithelial cells

Demodex causes inflammation of the sebaceous gland or hair follicle, preventing the secretion of sebum. Symptoms include: local fever, inflammation, pain and formation of abscesses. You may experience mild itching of the skin in places where Demodex mites live, especially when they actively penetrate the follicle or sebaceous gland

It contributes to the formation of blackheads and blackheads. Demodex feces cause allergies and irritation of the sebaceous glands. Demodex can be identified by microscopic examination of comedones or entire hair follicles. It is transmitted together with dust, by direct contact with an infected person and by using the same cosmetic utensils, towels and clothes.
