Panthenol, or provitamin B5, is recognized for its soothing, repairing, moisturizing and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin, frequently used in hair applications to strengthen and beautify the hair.

The group of B vitamins includes pantothenic acid - vitamin B5 - which is an essential element for the body. The precursor of vitamin B5 is panthenol, which, once it penetrates the skin, quickly transforms into pantothenic acid, which plays an important role in the activity of cells and tissues. Its name derives from the Greek word "panthoten" which means "everywhere" and is found in the form of two isomers: D and L, but only the D form is biologically active - Dexpanthenol or D-Panthenol.

By applying products containing panthenol on the skin, the synthesis of keratinocytes and the proliferation of fibroblasts (constituent cells of the epidermis) are stimulated, thus favoring the healing of injuries and accelerating the regeneration of the skin, in addition, it increases the level of hydration and has an anti-inflammatory effect.
At the level of the hairline, panthenol attaches to the keratin surface, coats and smoothes it, giving it increased shine and strength.

Properties:

- anti-inflammatory, calms the skin affected by irritation, itching or burns;

- moisturizing, maintains skin hydration, reduces the dehydration process;
- capillary fortifier, gives shine to hair strands, can prevent split ends;
- strengthens the hair from root to tip;
- calms the irritated scalp, reduces the itching sensation.

Recommendations for use:

- skin care in general, care for any type of skin, hair care and hygiene;
- as an ingredient in repairing and moisturizing lotions and creams, for the face, eye area, body, hands and feet;
- irritated, damaged, flaky skin;
- caring for sensitive, fragile skin, including that of children;
- taking care of the areas affected by injuries;
- soothing the skin affected by itching, small burns, stings;
- after epilation or after shaving;
- skin care and regeneration after exposure to the sun;
- hair care regardless of its type or scalp condition;
- dry, dull, brittle hair, with split ends; sensitive, irritated scalp, affected by itching or lesions.

Mode of use in cosmetics:

- it is a product that is not used as such on the skin, only as an ingredient in cosmetic preparations for the care and hygiene of the skin and hair;
- it can be included as a cosmetic ingredient in a dosage of 2-5% in various formulas, regardless of skin and hair type;
- it is a water-soluble product, it is not soluble in oils, it can generally be included in any composition that also contains water;
- in compositions prepared by emulsification or that require heating, panthenol is added in the final phase, cold;
- panthenol can be used as a cosmetic active in various preparations: toner, lotion, serum, gel, cream, aftershave, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, facial or capillary mask, hair cream;
- panthenol can also be included in a cream base, shampoo base or hair conditioner.
