Read the leaflet carefully and completely before you start using this medicine, because it contains important information for you.
Always use this medicine as directed in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Indications:
Acute and chronic vaginitis, mixed, specific and non-specific infections (Gardnerella, Trichomonas, Candida). Preoperative preparation in gynecology.
Betadine is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent (bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal, protozoic).
Composition:
Each egg contains 200 mg of polyvinyl-pyrrolidone (PVP-iodine complex). Contraindications: allergy to iodine, hyperthyroidism, dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, before treatment with radioactive iodine. Administration should be avoided after the third month of pregnancy and during breastfeeding, possibly only following individual assessment and under medical supervision.
Mode of administration:
One egg a day, for 7-14 days, in infectious pathologies. The ovum is inserted deep into the vagina, in the evening at bedtime. At the doctor's discretion and depending on the type of infection, 2 tablets per day can be administered for a longer period. Preoperatively, one egg a day, a few days before surgery.
Contraindications:
Do not use Betadine:
- if you are allergic to povidone iodine or any of the other components of this medicine.
Precautions:
Before using Betadine, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Due to the lack of safety and efficacy data, Betadine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility:
During pregnancy and breastfeeding povidone iodine should be used only if strictly indicated and for a minimal period of time.
Large amounts of povidone-iodine should not be administered during pregnancy and lactation because iodine passes through the placenta and into breast milk and thus may increase the sensitivity of the fetus or newborn to iodine. Furthermore, iodine is concentrated in breast milk compared to the concentration in serum.
The use of povidone-iodine may induce transient hypothyroidism (reduced activity of the thyroid gland) in the fetus or newborn. A check of the child's thyroid gland function may be necessary. Possible oral ingestion of the solution by the infant must be avoided.
Fertility:
Spermicide drugs or those administered intravaginally (antifungal, antitrichomoniasis, antibacterial antiseptic, antiherpetic, or local preparations with estrogens): any intravaginal treatment with local action can inactivate local contraceptives.
Driving vehicles and using machines:
Betadine does not influence the ability to drive vehicles or use machines.
