Argan is a tall tree with thorns, oval leaves that are green all year round and fruits similar to olives.
Argan is native to Morocco, where it is called the "olive of Morocco", from the southwestern regions: Agadir, Essaouira and Taroudant, but it also grows in the Madeira Islands, Cape Verde and the Canary Islands.
The argan tree gives around 8 kilograms of fruit per year.
Argan oil is obtained by cold pressing the seeds, a painstaking process because one kilogram of seeds is pressed in about eight hours, and 3 liters of oil are obtained from 100 kilograms of seeds, which is why argan oil is considered "the gold the desert".
Argan oil contains: linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, striac acid, unsaturated fatty acids (Omega 3, 6 and 9), antioxidants, carotenes, vitamin E, etc. and can be used for therapeutic, culinary or cosmetic purposes.
