Polocard 150 mg, 120 enteral tablets

Polocard ^® is a drug in the form of enteric tablets, suitable for use in adults and adolescents over 16 years of age. The indication for the use of the drug is the prevention of diseases of the circulatory system that can lead to the formation of clots and emboli in the blood vessels. These include: heart attack; unstable and stable ischemic heart disease. Polocard ^® tablets can also be taken to prevent other diseases involving blood clots in the vessels.

What is acetylsalicylic acid and what does it do?

The active substance contained in Polocard ^® is acetylsalicylic acid ( Acidum acetylsalicylicum ). The acetyl derivative of salicylic acid, commonly called aspirin, is classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has an antithrombotic effect when used for a long time.

Acetylsalicylic acid administered in small doses inhibits the aggregation (clumping) of platelets. Because of this, it plays an important role in preventing the formation of blood clots. Aggregation inhibition occurs already with low doses of the drug and persists for several days after a single dose. These properties of acetylsalicylic acid have been used in the prevention and treatment of thrombotic complications, as well as in the prevention of myocardial infarction and ischemic heart disease.

The package contains 120 film-coated tablets of ^Polocard® 75 mg. Gastro-resistant tablets are a pharmaceutical form that does not disintegrate in the stomach, which reduces the risk of direct contact of acetylsalicylic acid with the gastric mucosa. The tablet disintegrates and the active substance is released only in the more alkaline environment of the duodenum.
