Lakcid Intima is in the form of vaginal capsules containing live lyophilized lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus gasseri DSM 14869 and Lactobacillus rhamnosus DSM 14870). These bacteria have strong adhesive properties to the vaginal epithelium that allow them to colonize and survive in the vagina. Both strains produce lactic acid, and the Lactobacillus gasseri DSM 14869 strain additionally produces hydrogen peroxide, thus creating an unfavorable environment for the growth of pathogenic bacteria and yeasts (most often the Candida albicans species). Due to their properties, they influence the microbiological balance by limiting the development of pathogenic microorganisms, because by maintaining the appropriate acidic pH of the vagina they can reduce symptoms such as itching, burning, vaginal secretions and unpleasant odor.
