Description
We lose part of the body water in a natural way: urine, sweat and breathing. When water output exceeds intake, the body's water content decreases, the body reaches a negative water balance. A water deficit is accompanied by a loss of salts in the body. Sometimes there is first an increased loss of salts and then water. Insufficient water intake is common, e.g. in the elderly who have a reduced sense of thirst, in immobile patients and in children.
In the case of excessive water loss from various causes, it is necessary to feed the body with the lost water together with inorganic salts. Because water molecules move freely in and out of cells, water itself could not be maintained in our body without help. Inorganic salts break down in aqueous solution into positively charged cations and negatively charged anions. They do not remain alone, but immediately surround themselves with water molecules and thus bind it. These ions, unlike water, pass through the barriers in our body with relative difficulty and have to use special transport systems for this. Due to this difference, if we manage to supply the body with a sufficient amount of ions and subsequently water, the delivered water binds in the body and we do not lose it. Since sodium represents 90% of all cations in the blood and extracellular space, it is the most important element that holds the most water in the body, wrapping itself in its molecules. Sodium is most easily absorbed together with glucose. By adding glucose to the solution, the absorption of sodium will increase and consequently the absorbed water will no longer leave the body.
- The solution formed after dissolving one tablet in 150 ml of drinking water is hypotonic (228 mmol/l), there is no danger of overdose with the preparation. The preparation contains 60 mmol/l sodium (Na +).
- Fluidex® tablets do not contain flavor, coloring, artificial sweeteners or other flavors.
Recommended dose:
- For adults, 150-300 ml of solution is recommended (1 effervescent tablet per 150 ml of drinking water, or 2 effervescent tablets per 300 ml of drinking water) for increased loss of body fluids.
- In children from the age of three, half the amount is used, exclusively under the supervision of the attending physician.
