What is food intolerance?

Food intolerance is a non-immune response to the consumption of a food or food ingredient in an amount that is usually tolerated by the general population. It results from mechanisms other than food allergy involving an immune response.

The cause of food intolerances can be the lack of certain enzymes that break down carbohydrates in the intestines (for example, lactase deficiency that breaks down lactose). The Food Detective™ test examines the body's reactions to 59 food products divided into 46 groups. Before the test is performed, a collection kit is provided, which contains all the necessary tools to collect the appropriate amount of material. Performing the test involves drawing a small amount of blood from a finger or vein into an attached tube and sending the material to a specific laboratory. The patient can also go to a nearby collection point that collects venous blood for the patient's kit. After collecting the blood, you must immediately report the availability to send the material by phone or e-mail. The courier will pick up the package and deliver it to the laboratory. The test result and interpretation are sent electronically in approximately 7 business days.
