Baneocin ointment 250 UI/5000 UI per gram, 20 g, Sandoz

Localized bacterial skin infections eg: boils, carbuncles (only after surgical treatment), chin folliculitis, deep folliculitis, suppurative hydrosadenitis, periporitis, paronychia.

Limited skin infections such as: contagious impetigo, infected calf ulcers, secondarily infected eczema, secondarily infected wounds and cuts, hot water burns, other burns, post surgical interventions such as plastic and reconstructive surgery, for example skin transplantation (both prophylactic as well as in the form of dressings with ointment).

After major or minor surgery: can be used as an adjunct during post-operative care.

The application of gauze bandages on which Baneocin ointment has been applied can be useful in patients with wounds with a lack of substance importance (for example, infections of the external ear canal, wounds, bedsores or surgical wounds left to heal per secundam).

Composition:

100 g of ointment contain zinc bacitracin 25000 IU and neomycin 500000 IU in the form of neomycin sulfate and excipients: anhydrous lanolin, white vaseline.

How to use: 

• The recommended dose for both adults and children is 2-3 applications of Baneocin ointment per day
• In the case of local treatment, it is recommended not to exceed the dose of 1 g neomycin per day (corresponding to 200 g skin powder or Baneocin ointment) administered for a maximum period of 7 days. In the case of repeating the treatment, this dose should be reduced by half
• The ointment is applied in a thin layer on the area to be treated; it can be covered with a dressing.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to bacitracin, neomycin, other aminoglycoside antibiotics or any of the excipients of the product
• Extensive, severe skin lesions (as drug absorption may cause ototoxicity with hearing loss)
• Severe renal failure
• Pre-existing vestibular or/and cochlear lesions
• Application to the level of the external auditory canal, in case of tympanic perforation
• Application to the breasts during breastfeeding
• Children under 2 years.

Precautions:

• In the case of prolonged use, the possibility of the appearance of resistant microorganisms, especially fungi, must be taken into account. In these cases, if indicated, appropriate treatment will be used
• If hypersensitivity reactions or superinfection occur, treatment should be discontinued
• The risk of hypersensitivity reactions is increased in case of long-term use (more than 8 days), use in case of chronic dermatitis, especially in stasis dermatitis or use under occlusive dressings.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility:

• Neomycin, like all aminoglycoside antibiotics, crosses the placenta. The appearance of lesions of the cochlear apparatus in the fetus has been described, in the case of parenteral administration of high doses to the mother
• Since the systemic absorption of the active substances in Baneocin is possible, it is not recommended to be administered to pregnant women or during breastfeeding, especially in local applications to the breasts.

Driving vehicles and using machines:

• Baneocin does not affect the ability to drive or use machines.
