Description
- Local treatment of bruises and pain in traumatology and local treatment of rheumatic muscle and joint pain.
- Apply to the affected areas 2 to 3 times a day and rub until completely absorbed by the skin.
- The recommended duration of administration is 15 days.
- Algesal is intended for adults and adolescents from 12 years of age.
The cream should not be applied to broken skin, i.e. wounds, burns, eczema or mucous membranes.
The cream should not be administered to children under 12 years of age.
- It is not suitable for patients with limited renal function to apply to larger areas, due to the possibility of increased absorption and therefore the increased incidence of adverse effects. Athletes should be warned that the drug contains a drug that can cause a positive result in tests performed during anti-doping control.
- There are no adequate data on the use of diethylamine salicylate and myrtecaine in pregnant women. Therefore, it is not recommended to use Algesal during pregnancy, especially in the last trimester.
- Algesal should not be used during breastfeeding, as there is insufficient information on the passage of terpene substances into milk and on the possible neurotoxic effect on the infant.
- The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and use machines.
- In very rare cases, allergic reactions (rash, itching, urticaria), erythema and exanthema may occur. In this case, the application must be terminated.
- Salicylates may cause bronchospasm in predisposed asthmatic patients.
- If the cream is used in recommended doses, no general systemic effects are expected.
- When Algesal is applied to large areas (more than 20 g per day), systemic adverse effects, mainly on the gastrointestinal tract, cannot be excluded.
Children and teenagers
Medicines containing terpene derivatives pose a risk of convulsions when used in children.
- Salicylates act by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins and other mediators of inflammation in an analgesic, antiphlogistic and antiedematous manner. Myrtecaine acts as a muscle relaxant through a direct effect on the muscles and at the site of administration as an anesthetic. The onset of effect is rapid.
- Percutaneous penetration, resorption and elimination of drugs have been demonstrated in experimental animals using C-14 labeled compounds. Salicylates pass into milk in low concentrations.
- When administered topically, diethylamine salicylate salt is absorbed in such an amount that it reaches 60% of the level achieved after oral administration of the corresponding dose in the synovial fluid. Levels in tissues (muscle, cartilage and tendon) are higher after topical administration than after oral administration.
- Diethylamine salicylate is fat soluble and therefore passes through the skin without biotransformation. It is stored in the subcutaneous tissues and is gradually released from there. Further elimination (mainly according to Michaelis kinetics) is gradual.
- With local administration, enough drug is provided to achieve a therapeutic effect at the site of inflammation, but the general effect does not occur (the plasma level is about 100 times lower than after oral administration).
- No adverse effect on the course of pregnancy, fetal size or any significant birth defects was observed.
